The charming landmark that once graced Ghar Id-Dud in Sliema, attracting both visitors and locals from all across the island.
Inaugurated in 1926, the beautifully constructed two-tiered concrete structure, characterised by its Art Deco entrance, was an immensely popular open air cafe and dancing venue with enjoyable live music played by top local bands. The picturesque site of the building lit up by colourful bulbs was a real delight to see.
The building suffered substantial damage during the war and was in danger of collapse. When the repairs were carried out, it opened again regularly however it was later closed down in 1963 after it was officially declared as structurally unsafe.
The platform that remains today from this iconic structure evokes nostalgia among those who have lived the magic of this lost treasure.
