The two artworks presented are part of a passion project of mine called ‘Nies u Nies’ which explores different facets of queer identity. These original works were drawn in 2021 and are therefore very much of their time, in that they cover the subject of isolation and quarantine during the pandemic. They explore aspects of queer male sexuality within the imposed context of lockdown and limitations on human contact.

Ultimately, this set is a result of my reflection on loneliness and the need for physical proximity and emotional support from one’s community.

About the Artist

Drawing from his love for storytelling, Kyle jumps between illustration and animation. His more recent work has focused on children’s book illustration and fantasy-driven works, but you may also find him directing animated shorts or working on his series of queer identity portraits.

• This artwork is part of The Big Gay Art Show, a collective exhibition celebrating queer Maltese and Malta-based artists, displayed at Cafe Society in Valletta between the 7th and 30th of September 2023
